Training is targeted at researchers, staff, students and everyone interested in data management.

After training you will be able to:

  • Understand what data management means in the different stages of the research life cycle
  • Know how to make a data management plan
  • Recognize the different types of data described in the data management plan
  • Understand what is meant by the data FAIR principles
  • Understand the agreements, rights and permissions associated with the use and creation of research data
  • Identify the most common solutions and services for storage, archiving and sharing of data during and after research project
  • Find additional instructions and know where to ask for help if necessary

Trainers work as a data specialists at Tampere University data services. The training will be held in TEAMS and it will not be recorded.

Researching social media -training

Wednesday 17th of September at 12.00-13.00  Register here

Social media offers researchers a huge amount of data, but its use in research requires special attention to ethical, methodological and technical issues, for example. Social media data is often personal, rapidly changing and context-dependent, which makes its collection, processing and interpretation challenging but at the same time very timely and valuable. The training examines how social media can be used in research responsibly and in accordance with good scientific practice.

After the training, the participant will:

  • Understand the special features of social media data and the related ethical issues
  • Able to assess when and how social media data can be used in research
  • Able to take into account data protection and platform-specific practices in social media research
  • Find additional instructions and know where to ask for help if necessary

The trainers are the library's open science experts. The training is organized in Teams and is not recorded.

Handling personal information -training, PART 1

Thursday the 25th of September at 12.00-13.00 Register here

After the training, you will be able to:

  • You can define what personal information means
  • You understand what anonymization and pseudonymization of personal data mean
  • You master the basic principles and key concepts of personal data protection and minimization
  • You will find additional instructions and know where to ask for help if necessary

Trainers work as a data specialists at Tampere University data services. The training will be held in TEAMS and it will not be recorded.

Handling personal information -training, PART 2

  • Learn how to make a data processing impact assessment (DPIA)  for your study
  • Find additional instructions and know where to ask for help if necessary

Trainers work as a data specialists at Tampere University data services. The training will be held in TEAMS and it will not be recorded.

Ending a research project - which issues to consider regarding data management?

Thursday the 30th of October at 12.00-13.00 Register here

When a research project ends, key data management issues include where research data will be archived after the project, what part of the research data can be shared openly, and what compliance with the FAIR principles required by many funders means in practice. In our training, we aim to cover the most important aspects of data management related to the project closure phase.

After the training, the participant will:

  • Understand the requirements of funders (e.g. Research Council of Finland, EU) regarding data and metadata openness
  • Able to choose a suitable storage location and archive for research data
  • Identify the commitments and data protection issues associated with sharing and preserving data
  • Find additional instructions and know where to ask for help if necessary

The trainers are the library's open science experts. The training is organised in Teams and is not recorded.

Describing research data and publishing metadata at TUNICRIS-system

Wednesday 5th of November at 12.00-13.00  Register here

What is metadata and what does it contain? What are the benefits of creating and publishing descriptive information about research data? Can I store public documentation data for my research data in TUNICRIS?

This training will introduce you to creating and storing public dodumentation data for research data in the TUNICRIS research information system. Together, we will go through what kind of information about your research data should be stored in the research information system and how it will be visible on the system's public portal.

After the training, you will be able to:

  • You will know what does metadata and data documentation mean for research data
  • You will learn how to store public descriptive data about your research data in TUNICRIS
  • You will outline the different ways in which it is possible to add data to the system and how the data will be used further
  • You will find additional instructions and know where to ask for help if necessary

The trainers are the library's open science experts. The training is organized in Teams and is not recorded.
