The public is interested in scientific research and the people who are doing it. As doctoral dissertations are an important part of the scientific output of Tampere University, it is important that information on them is easy to find. All dissertation defences are published as events on the University’s website and intranet.
Selected dissertation press releases are sent to Finnish media. Communication Services choose dissertation press release topics based on news criteria and prioritise timely topics that are of general interest. Press releases are always drafted together with the doctoral researcher. You can also be proactive and pitch your story idea to your own media contacts or specialist magazines in your field. Please note that all media have their own editorial policy and space that determine which stories they cover.
We also encourage faculties and doctoral researchers to publish information on dissertations on their social media.
These instructional videos offer concrete tips to learn how to master your communication skills on your defense day. Remember always contact your faculty for up-to-date details.
As a doctoral researcher, it is your responsibility to draft a summary of your dissertation. Please write the summary in either Finnish or English or in both languages. You are also responsible for translating the text. If you wish, you can use AI (Ms Copilot) to draft the summary.
