Citizen science: Citizen science in Finland

Citizen science advances open science. In Finland, open science is coordinated by the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies with funding from the Ministry of Education and Culture. Open science is promoted in expert panels and their associated working groups. The Working group on citizen science explores the interface between open research and society through citizen science.

The task of the Working group on citizen science is to identify how services and guidance can support the implementation of the national policy.

• Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) seeks solutions to environmental problems through citizen science. SYKE is a member of European Citizen Science Association (ECSA).
• Finnish Biodiversity Information Facility (FinBIF) FinBIF collects and combines Finnish species information into a coherent and open collection for research, education, administration and the general public. Submit your observations.
• Vieraslajit.fi (maintained by LUKE) helps to identify and control invasive alien species and collect data on them, for example for species monitoring and research. Report your alien species observations. See also EASIN - European Alien Species Information Network.
